Password Protect PDF Files
Encrypt PDF files before sharing contracts, reports, invoices, forms, and records. Protected documents require the correct password before the content can be opened.
GiliSoft PDF DOC Password Protect encrypts PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WPS, image, and MP4 files with AES-256 before sharing or archiving. The Windows workflow creates a protected GFX file or EXE package; it does not add a standard password field to the original PDF or DOCX.
Recipients open the GFX file in a compatible GiliSoft player or run the protected EXE, then enter the password to access the content. The current installer opens the Any File Encryptor workspace, where you add supported files and choose the protected output.
This is password-gated encrypted delivery, not copy-control DRM. For anti-copy restrictions, compare PDF DOC Copy Protect; for post-delivery access policies, see PDF DRM Protection.

| Tool or method | Best for | Important difference |
|---|---|---|
| PDF DOC Password Protect | Encrypting supported PDF, Office, image, and MP4 files with AES-256 into password-protected GFX or EXE packages. | Best when recipients can open a protected GiliSoft package on Windows and need password-gated access. |
| PDF editors | Editing, annotating, merging, converting, and sometimes applying PDF-only password settings. | Useful for PDF workflows, but less focused on mixed document encryption. |
| ZIP or archive tools | Compressing files and applying archive-level passwords. | Convenient, but not a dedicated document-protection workflow. |
| PDF DRM Protection | Stronger document control, access rules, policy management, and post-delivery protection. | Better when you need more than password-based encryption. |
Use this workflow when documents should not be sent as ordinary open files.
