Gilisoft Video DRM Protection

GiliSoft Video DRM Protection helps you secure training videos, online course videos, internal media, and premium content with playback passwords, device binding, watermarking, blacklist control, and anti-capture settings. It is designed for controlled video access and safer digital distribution, while also supporting selected document and media formats when your workflow extends beyond video.
Who uses it?
Training providers, schools, coaches, consultants, media teams, compliance departments, and businesses that need to distribute protected video content to authorized viewers without leaving files open for uncontrolled sharing, copying, or screen recording.

GiliSoft Video DRM Protection is available in Free, Pro, and Deluxe editions so you can choose the workflow that fits your delivery model. The Free edition is mainly for trying the core DRM packaging workflow, but it cannot modify the default encryption key and can only output protected EXE files. The Pro edition adds practical commercial controls such as blacklist management and support for encrypting source materials larger than 4 GB. The Deluxe edition goes further by allowing you to customize the encrypted file extension format as part of the protection workflow, rather than simply renaming the output file.
About the custom player and cross-platform player
The built-in custom player workflow is useful when you want a more controlled branded playback experience. If you need multi-system delivery with dedicated players for Windows, macOS, Android, or iOS, that must be discussed separately as a cooperation project. This is not included as a simple standard switch because cross-platform player delivery involves additional player development, packaging, signing, testing, marketplace submission, maintenance, and release support. Those platform and publishing costs are real, which is why multi-system player deployment requires separate consultation.

Core Video DRM Features

Government-level Security

DRM Protection encrypt media with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) that is one of the most frequently used and most secure encryption algorithms available today. It is the cipher which the NSA uses for securing documents with the classification "top secret".

Protect Training Videos and Premium Media

DRM Protection is built for training videos, online course media, premium clips, internal communications, and controlled business video delivery. Common protected formats include MP4, AVI, MKV, WMV, MOV, and FLV, with selected document support available for mixed-content workflows.

Playback Passwords and Binding Modes

Choose between fixed playback passwords, PC binding, demo playback, USB disk binding, and CD/DVD binding so access can match your distribution model and licensing policy.

Dynamic Watermarks for Shared Videos

Watermarks can be added to videos in floating or fixed styles, with customizable text, color, and sizing. You can also create different watermark content for different viewers to improve traceability.

Anti-Capture and Playback Controls

Use anti-screen-recording protection, virtual-machine blocking, playback environment rules, and extra playback checks that make protected videos harder to capture or redistribute outside your approved workflow.

Online Password Blacklist

Revoke leaked or misused playback passwords with an online blacklist so protected videos can check the latest blocked credentials before playback without repackaging every file.

Password Maker and Player Builder

Create different playback passwords for different users and customize the player experience for protected video delivery, branded playback, and audience-specific distribution workflows.

Viewer Guidance and Access Prompts

Configure prompts that tell viewers how to request access, contact support, or obtain a playback password so protected delivery feels more controlled and less confusing for end users.

High-Speed Video Encryption

No video conversion, no quality loss, and a fast packaging workflow that makes it practical to prepare protected training videos and premium media for hard disks, USB disks, or discs.

Package Multiple Files for One Delivery

You can package multiple files into one protected delivery for a single controlled playback workflow. This is useful when a course or training bundle includes video plus supporting files.

GEM or EXE Delivery Formats

Export protected content as GEM or EXE packages depending on how you plan to distribute videos, supporting media, and controlled playback files to authorized viewers.

Reduce Unauthorized Redistribution

Use controlled playback, binding, watermarking, and policy settings to reduce unauthorized duplication and uncontrolled sharing of licensed or confidential media files.

Anti-Screen Capture

Reduce unauthorized screenshots and screen recording attempts from users, collaboration tools, and unwanted applications during protected playback.

Document Controls for Mixed Content

When a protected package includes PDF or document files, you can apply extra viewing restrictions such as read-only access and print limits for mixed-content delivery workflows.

Additional Copy Protection Controls

Apply extra restrictions that make it harder for protected media packages to be copied into uncontrolled environments outside your approved distribution path.

Bound Playback for Safer Delivery

Use device-aware packaging and binding rules when you need playback to stay tied to a specific machine or approved storage device.

Password-Protected Playback Without Extraction

Protected videos can request a playback password directly, without forcing viewers through a separate extraction workflow or creating temporary unprotected media files during normal playback.

Controlled Distribution for Premium Videos

Protect premium or confidential video files with playback-password workflows so viewers can only access the content after receiving an approved playback credential from you.

Top How-to Guides

Who Is This For?

Training providers and course creators

Protect paid lessons, recorded classes, coaching libraries, and certification materials shared with students or customers.

Businesses sharing confidential video content

Secure internal announcements, partner briefings, product demos, and compliance videos that should not be freely redistributed.

Teams distributing licensed media to external viewers

Use playback passwords, watermarking, and binding controls when premium media must be delivered outside your organization.

Publishers who need more than simple video encryption

Choose DRM-style playback controls when password-only video locking is not enough for your delivery model.

Why Use Video DRM Instead of Simple Video Encryption or Watermarking?

Playback control goes beyond a file password

Video DRM workflows can combine playback passwords, binding rules, and access revocation rather than relying on one shared password alone.

Watermarks help, but they do not control access

Watermarking is useful for traceability, but DRM-style rules help control who can play the video and where playback is allowed.

Designed for paid and controlled distribution

This workflow is better suited to training, licensing, and premium-content delivery than a simple local video encryption tool.

Use copy-protection tools for other workflows

If your real goal is basic video copy protection, USB delivery, or PDF-only controls, a more specialized product page may be the better fit.

Does your DRM work on all devices?

The encryption and protection workflow itself is available on Windows only. That means protected files must be created and packaged on a Windows system. For playback, GiliSoft DRM is designed for broader delivery across major Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS scenarios, but this does not mean every device or every third-party player is guaranteed. Protected content is intended to be accessed through the authorized GiliSoft playback workflow, and actual compatibility depends on the protection mode, operating system, and playback requirements of the protected file.
